Default New SEO Strategies?

So what are the new SEO Strategies now? I mean is guest posting really dead? What about blog commenting? Are we going to rely so much on content writing and marketing?

Yes, you are right, guest posting is almost dead as we get nofollow links and only quality sites give dofollow link. Till now there is only one key in SEO to maintain the PR of your site i.e. Unique and quality content. Try to build backlinks from the PR sites. And use techniques like Social Bookmarking, Forum Posting, Image Submission, Blog Commenting, etc.

When you say PR sites what do you mean by that? PR sites like sites with high Page ranks or sites that are doing PR's?

PR means Page Rank, do submission in the sites with high page rank.

Thanks for clarifying that RosieGlover. So what is the minimum page rank that is considered good resources for link building? is PR 2 good enough?

Guest posting is not dead. You just have to post to relative blogs with higher PageRank and Trust Flow. Trust Flow is made thanks to the quality of the link linking to a site. So you might have a PR 2, but a TF of 0. Don't post in such places. Use Majestic SEO to do a better backlink profile.

And don't think NoFollow links are no use. If you submit an article in a blog with thousand visits per day and 100 of them see your article, they might click on it or share it etc. Which will give you some traffic and spread the link around the social media. Plus, NoFollow links give you a better backlink profile. Google watches that.

Blog comments are kind of the same - relative topics to your niche or places where you can get some interactions. Social shares are important.

Content has always been important and it will continue to be.

But there are a lot of things you can do. Article righting - blogs, directories, communities. Just avoid spammy places. Smart comments. Publish your business to business directories - you might not rank in the SERP with these, but you can get traffic. Bookmarks and social shares. Tiered link building.

Because of recent PR update many sites have been badly affected, so I will suggest you don't go for PR, look for domain authority of the site there are many sites with less PR but good Domain Authority.

Blog commenting and guest posting is not dead, it's just you cannot rely on the actual links themselves to give you decent link juice anymore. Most blog comments will only create nofollow links for a start.

However, (relevant) blog commenting does provide you with a broad link profile across many different domains. This is good in the eyes of Google.

It is probably best to see blog/forum commenting and guest posting as a way of joining the community surrounding your niche. A profile building strategy rather than powerful link building.

And of course, excellent and unique content is a big thing in SEO these days as over time you will create links the natural way, (ie people sharing your wonderful content).

Local SEO, such as ensuring your business is on Google Maps and reputable local directories is important.

Broken link building is also effective, as is well maintained Web 2.0 feeder sites on platforms such as Hubpages or Squidoo.

Other link-building strategies such as article submissions, blog directories etc offer very little value now.

Hi,

Thank you for your insightful comments... yes, I've read a lot of SEO Blogs emphasizing on relationship building rather than pure link building. Creating rapport by sharing knowledge or thoughts/opinions with other people through blog commenting is also very effective than just purely leaving a scripted comments for the sake of link building.

But one thing that I don't understand is when you said that "Broken link building is also effective"... How could that be? Do you mean that having broken links would help you with your SEO?
