I like the convenience of online banking for control over several accounts. However, I do not use it for online bill paying. Should you ever need to make changes or switch the account it's being drawn from - it can cause a real headache.

I don't have that problem. B of A makes it pretty easy.

Personally I could be away for years and come back and all the bills would be paid, well I guess if there's enough money in the account, so as long as Direct Deppsit is working, all is good.

Business-wise, transitioning more and more into online payments. The stacks of checks for the printer isn't going down nearly as fast as it was a while ago and the postage machine seems to need less and less money each month. Both good problems to have...

Thumbs up

Yep. I use it and recommend it:

~downloading transactions from the bank or credit card company is a snap
~online bill payment is easier and less expensive than generating and mailing a paper check
~using a vendor's auto-debit or auto-charge helps eliminate an unnecessary step of paying a bill
~account balances are quickly verifiable

All good things. Online banking is highly recommended!

Do you use online banking?

If so, is your bank's online offering meeting your needs? How or how not?
I changed banks just for online banking. It is a huge time saver as well as accomplishes a lot of the record keeping that I would normally have to do. Even the rent payment for my office is scheduled. My bank cuts a check, puts it in an envelope and mails it for me... and for free!!!

I will be deploying a new business this month which will use online banking quite heavily. It's an online auction of travel related products... the auction winner will pay by credit card/check/transfer online... then the company staff will confirm the funds, and make the splits all online using a bill pay style interface.

I think many people are hesitant to embrace online banking for a number of reasons... some people think that if they don't use online banking, then their account isn't on the Internet. (uh... well.... never mind) I know when I first tried different online banking sites, they seemed cumbersome and cheesy. I think they are getting much better.

Bottom line... spend about two hours a month paying bills through my banks online bill pay... no more checks, no more envelopes and no more stamps.

Yes... I love online banking.

So, you don't really have a choice.
Funny, I ran into this experience today. My client assumed his company would take my invoice and mail a check within normal cycle until asking about using a corp credit card so he could get started faster. In my experience, if you can take the transaction via corp. cards, they will do it.

The other end of the argument is the money you can save your clients by accepting checks is worth a look becasue of fees. Depends on your business and number/size of transactions.

As for me, I bank online exclusively - it is faster and the bills that are the same monthly take place automatically saving the business owner and family person a lot of time.

I use online banking everyday for both business & personal transactions. LOVE it!! It makes it so easy to transfer money from accounts and always know your balances. I never even look at my monthly confusing paper statements anymore. I use online for all customer transactions except the occasional money order. From PayPal to processing customer credit cards.

I do online bill pay on some accounts too. I find it really helpful when you want to make several payments to a bill in the same month. Makes paying down credit cards easier if you take a few extra bucks each week and make a payment.

I also live for online shipping. Does anyone else use shipping online?
