Default Keyword Research

Is there any kind of system somewhere that I can type a particular keyword into and it provides for me other keywords that are related to the that keyword? Im thinking maybe a system that I can type a keyword in, then the system goes out to the internet and searches other meta keywords with that same keyword and displays for me the "other" keywords in that tag. All help is greatly appreciated!

try www.wordtracker.com. They offer a nice pay service. You can also try www.l3xicon.com or www.quintura.com

A few others to pile on further -

Keyword Research Tools
SEO Book
Spyfu (for competive research)
HitTail (for keyword referral reporting)

Spyfu is pretty good with matching up with what you described. But based on my experiences I only use competitor meta tags and keywords for "idea" research. Best way I can describe using someone else's keyword research for your own keywords .... kind of like the blind leading the blind often unless it is a rare case where the seo who did the work well. But it can be a good brainstorming process to go through - just research further (popularity/competitiveness) beyond another competitor targeting a keyword.

Anyone else, please feel free to keep adding on what you use or anything else helpful.

Visual Thesaurus is an excellent tool for brainstorming key phrases. I believe it's free to try and then you must pay for it. But super cheap - as low as $2.95/mo.

For basic keyword expansion I find the Google keyword tool just about the most comprehensive for synonym and like concept matching.

For search traffic analysis I've always found Keyword Discovery (http://keyworddiscovery.com/) the most intuitive.

As for crawling meta data, IMHO, most webmasters didn't give enough thought to it to be worth your inspection.

Depending on what you plan on using for keywords you may also want to review this article. The lawsuit discussed may set forth a trail of similar lawsuits. There's already talk of another suit based on text copy infringement.
