Default Ads more likely to be viewed on niche sites

The following article discusses a study that can be useful for niche sites when making an ad sales pitch:

Study: Reaching Light Users, Niche Sites Is Key for Advertisers

http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3413171

Snippet:
On sites with more specialized content, and a clearer skew towards a target audience, the probability of an ad actually being viewed by the target is much higher.

(A good point to make to potential advertisers.)

I agree with Robert, And would like to add: When your site reaches 500 hits per day, Google will bring advertising offers to YOU.

I would NEVER let an advertiser on, unless they "fit" with the overall look and feel of my site though.

I am a very "Visual personality, Colors must blend and theme must flow.
The thought of multi-colored banners and buttons down the right side of my carefully co-ordinated site...........aghhhhhhhhh.

How much do they pay you say?
Regards,
Tanna

Default Good article

Robert, I think this is a very useful article.

I've also found this to be true: if the ad is placed next to relevant content on a specialized site, it is even more likely that someone interested in the product will click through. Because the user is already looking for that particular kind of information. So they click!

And I'd like to comment about Google AdSense ads. I use them on my site, but they do only so-so because the ads are not relevant.

My site is a blog and uses that word regularly in my PowerBlog reviews. So Google serves mostly ads for other blogs or blogging tools.

But that's not the reason people come to my site. They are not looking for blogging stuff. They are looking for information about small business and trends. For some reason Google does not "read" all the business-related terms on my pages when determining which ads to serve.

I'm planning to switch to a different ad-serving vendor. Any suggestions?

Two that are somewhat automated that allow advertisers to choose by category are:

AdBrite (Formerly MarketBanker)
http://www.adbrite.com/
New but off to a good start.

Blogads
http://www.blogads.com/
Listings in their business categories are pretty thin so you wouldn't be buried under a million other sites.

I have to agree, relevance is the key. Ads on sites that aren't related don't bring you any quality traffic, just worthless traffic (if you are lucky enough to get even that).
