Default Do You BYOD? (iPad, IPhone, Or Other Tablet)

I'm wondering who out there uses an iPad or iPhone in the BYOD (bring your own device) to work trend. I'm seeing more and more small businesses wanting to begin a mobile strategy with workers, but without being able to afford devices such as iPads - they are letting workers bring their own.

Do you use a tablet at work? What device do you use? Do you recommend any particular business apps?

That would start an interesting debate whether an employer should compensate (for device), or let the employee pick-up the tab.

I've always paid for my phone.

Default You cannot force it

The main idea behind BYOD is the extra productivity you get when allowing employees to decide for themselves and find the best ways to get things done. I think it is all about encouraging your employees to use their already owned mobile devices for work purposes.

I think it's a good move. I don't what type of workers you are referring here. For industrial blue-collar workers for example, using mobile phones is a big no, no. For salespeople then phones is almost a necessity.

We provide mobile phones for staff who need to be reached and who needs to check their emails frequently at all times. But not ipads.

Well, before starting my own business, I brought my ipad to work, but my iphone was paid for by the company. My laptop, too, was provided by the company. When I left the company, I got to keep the phone and laptop because of my years of service (8 years), so it was worth it using my own tablet for work. Plus, I had to go to clients for visits, so it was easier for me to bring a tablet instead of having to bring my tablet.

Yeah I use my tablet and laptop at work. But I think the company should provide staff with devices like mobile phones or tablets.

An update on this. I had a visit from someone last week who works with securities america about broker dealer search and she had a tablet with her (I am not advertising them, ok?). Anyway, I asked her if she owns her tablet or if it was provided by the company. She said that it was provided to her by the company, but she technically owns it because she is paying for the unit in installments, but the software to do her work is owned, of course, by the company. In the event that she wants to leave her job, she will have to submit the unit and they will simply delete the software from the tablet and give it back to her. Sounds fair, right?
