w3 validation is a speedy way of checking your html is valid.

I've never seen any evidence that Google is overly fussy. Just make sure your html pages work well for visitors in ALL widely-used browsers. (Firefox, Opera, Chrome and the other one)

I agree fairdoes, back in the day I remember seo's touting to make sure your pages were validated. I don't think I've ever had a site validate fully, it's not worth my time.

While it won't hurt to validate, consider how few actually do. If you are unsure, just go to google and do a search. Take the top ten results, and see for yourself how many validate. I'll guess - none.

Don't worry about it. Many more things with seo that will help your efforts. This is more spinning your wheels to go nowhere.

Validation means if the html on the site fits the html standard.

Don't take it at face value though. With the most recent standard, doing things like having an image with no alt tag results in an error, even though it has no bearing on the site being able to display properly.

Anyway, for SEO, it's ignorable. Focus on metas and headings.

I design and develop websites for a living.

The Markup Validation Service is a validator by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) that allows Internet users to check HTML and XHTML documents for well-formed markup.

I don't think W3C validation is too highly valued in SEO algorithms. If it was, half of the sites online would have problems!

An appealing phrase! I dread to think how much spinning I've done over the years ...

W3C is the standard way of coding web pages. It is useful to improve exposure of your website through the different visitor.

Personally, I validate my sites as much as possible, even though some will not validate.

The reason I do it is simple, it keeps the code clean, and if it validates, I know that it should parse correctly. Even leaving out a closing tag can hurt your SEO and what the search engines can read, even if it displays correctly.

I look at a lot of website code, some of it is nasty. I don't want people having that image of me or my work.
