Default Most Important Directories?

If we were to create a list of the most important directories to list our websites on -- which directories would you recommend? There are so many out there it would be very, very helpful to have some sense of which are the best.

The most important directories will vary depending on your industry. It's best to list on directories that have to do with your industry. Even if a niche directory is less popular than a general directory, I would argue the niche directory is more beneficial.

There are of course some general directories you need to be listed on.... like DMOZ.

Good luck! Nick

Unfortunately, DMOZ is certainly one of the most important. Hopefully that will change with time.

Forget about Dmoz they will never add you in their database.
Try to find on Google there are lots of directory with "inurl:directory" query.
you will have 100 of nice web directories list.

As has already been said, the most important vary with industry, and of course, expectation!

In the Uk, KellySearch can bring good qualified traffic to a site, and is also free for a listing with a link. Yell (online yellow pages) is hit and miss, but is costly.

BOTW is a good directory.

I guess the answer to your question is another question.

Best for what?

I would add dmoz.org to the list because it's free. It's at least worth the submission price.

The others?
botw.org
business.com
yahoo directory

Those are the only ones worth paying for at this point. There may be others in your niche, but generally those are the top 3 to be in.

I would suggest you gather a list of high PR directories (with subpages having PR as well). If its possible, include a traffic stats. Traffic is an important factor IMO in choosing a directory to submit to.

Should you have that list, share it here
