Default We Don't Know How To Start!!!

Hey everyone I'm new to the site. My husband and I are sick of working for JOE BANANA for little or no thanks at all. So we have come up with a retail idea that we believe is much needed in our city. Buut don't really know how you find out about suppliers and and financing stock. And how to start a store front idea without having to put out tons of money first. We have some start up money but we don't want to have to use that all on buying stock all at once. Does anyone know if this is possible to do? We are speaking of parts and accessories for ATV's by the way. Does anyone know if like a catalog ordering, mail ordering business is a viable thing to get off the ground using a store front. Any advice would be helpful.

you can find pretty good stuff on Alibaba.com but doing business with the chinese can be pretty tiresome and the quality needs to be scrutinized.

Thanx that's not really what I meant. I wanted to know how do you hook up with suppliers to get things at wholesale prices? I find sites for tese suppliers but there is no way that I can see to contact them about doing businessswith them.

Karen,

Try www.worldwidebrands.com/?kbid=17024

You can do a trial and see how many suppliers there are for your particular area of interest.

You might contact the Small business development center in your area or online. Another source on info is the local SCORE office...

With ATV parts, if you are expecting to sell genuine OEM parts for major manufacturers (Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda, etc.), then you probably would need to be a franchise dealer for that manufacturer.

You don't need to have a franchise to sell aftermarket parts, but you'll need to go thru an aftermarket distributor or wholesaler. Here is an example of an aftermarket wholesaler: http://www.northernwholesale.com/

I suggest contacting one or two wholesalers and asking a lot of questions to learn the lay of the land. Sounds like you've got some due diligence to do.

Good luck.

Alibaba is a death trap to me, but god bless them I get lots of clients who are tired of doing business that way.

Thanks everyone expecially you Anita you seem to know exactlly what I am talking about. So you say that we would have to approch a distributors. What type of questions should I make sure to ask. Neither of us have retail experience either. We are really green here. We've been to our local business center but haven't yet been to any seminars or gotten any real advice except how to acually get "A BUSINESS STARTED". Any help would be appreciated About the insides of this type of business.
