The Magento FREE "Community Edition" has in my experience one of the best, largest, and most active support communities around.

Magento does indeed have a fairly steep learning curve but all versatile and powerful eCommerce platforms do. Don't let complexity deter you from learning and using it. You may be surprised at how quickly you can get fairly comfortable with it.

Making the decision between PrestaShop vs Magento isnít easy. These are both great eCommerce solutions. PrestaShop targets the small to medium sized business, while Magento caters to the medium to large business. Whether youíre taking your business online for the first time or migrating from another eCommerce solution, both of these programs provide an excellent solution. If youíre technologically challenged and you plan to do the work yourself, PrestaShop is the better choice. However, if youíre knowledgeable of technology and web design, you will find Magento a better fit. Customizing your shopping cart is easier with PrestaShop, but you donít get the same control as you do with Magento.

Magento can get pretty complicated, is the thing.

A lot of online sellers that aren't super experienced with coding and programming find themselves needing to use a developer to get Magento working exactly the way they want it to.

Volusion is a comparable solution, but will also potentially require that you work with outside help to get everything just the way you want it.

When it comes to hosted solutions that are ready to go right out of the box, 3dcart and Bigcommerce are two of the most ready and reliable options, in my opinion.

Both Magento and PrestaShop are flexible and powerful open source eCommerce solutions. Both has rich features , but when compare to PrestaShop eCommerce software, Magento is more better.

JoMatt, could you please elaborate based on your own experience why you believe Magento to be better. That specific information would be more helpful for someone referencing this thread.

Thanks!

Both shopping carts are extremely efficient, flexible and scalable. It is hard to say which one is better. But, I would like to recommend PrestaShop, as it has a more clean structure that is easy to manage and customize.

PrestaShop comes with over 310 features that have been tested and developed carefully to assist merchants in boosting sales with the least possible efforts made in management. All the features are integrated in the software.

Default Magento is for pros

I would say that Magento platform is for those who can operate the store on advanced level. Moreover, with the recent Ebay's decision to close down MagentoGo and Prostores, Magento platform becomes a good for large ecommerce stores. However, they have a good knowledge base, and all SEO issues they have been known for can be fixed with appropriate plugins. Also, I have heard that Magento is the most secure CMS platform.

If you are in the process of shoppng cart migration right now, please check this article with recommendations we give to help sites avoid customers and traffic loss. Also we currently offer free SEO help for those who migrate from Magento GO.

Hope, that helps

There are rumors that Magento and PrestaShop are going to release their newer versions. i.e. PrestaShop 1.7 and Magetno 2.0..
How are you looking this?

I don't do Prestashop so I can't answer that but in regards to Magento 2.0 it's looking like a few months down the road at minimum. Still a ways to go with 2.0. I have a development version installed and follow the repository closely over on GitHub.

Nothing to that "rumor" as it's not even close to a full public release imo.
