If you work IN your business you're eployed. If you work ON your business while other people do the operations, you OWN a business.

Being a handy man and going to appointments does not make you OWN a business. You're simply employed by your self. And you're still a handy man ... not a business owner.
This is by far the most interesting & to the point definitions of 'business owner' and 'self employment' that I have heard.

It is easy to recognize the benefits of having your own work from home business. We have touched on the financial benefits and personal freedom, as well as the opportunity to live the lifestyle you desire. Having your own internet home based business should be fun.Additionally, the growth of the internet and internet business opportunities has vastly expanded the field for the beginning entrepreneur.

A window washing business - so simple yet it worked, thanks for the story. Anyone else have small business success stories?

I have to agree that these aren't really businesses, their jobs, you may be your own boss but you still aren't making money while sitting back and managing...your still the grunt in all of these.

Tshirt printing is hard to break into too, even funny original sayings have to have appropriate typography to make them look right, so it's strictly for designers and artists...

Successful Internet marketers always trumpet the importance of finding a niche. Your interest may uncover a niche that proves profitable. If you can tailor your hobby and interest to meet the needs and demands of a particular market, you can quickly prosper.
