Default Why Every Small Business Owner Needs To Know SEO

Have you tried to find information about a product or details about a business you want to go to on the Internet? Where did you go to find it? Chances are you fired up search engine such as Google, Yahoo or Bing and typed the keywords about the product or business. Once you found some search results you clicked on the first few pages to go to the relevant websites. Did you bother to go past first 2 or 3 pages of results returned by the search engine? The answer is most probably “No.”

The mechanism by which search engines determine which websites to show up first in the results page based on the keywords provided by the user is called Search Engine Optimization, or SEO for short. SEO plays a critical role in landing on the first few pages of the search engine results. If your website is not optimized for advanced SEO you are going to miss out on the visitors who will be looking for the products you sell or businesses similar to yours impacting your sales significantly.

How do you optimize your website with SEO so that it lands on the first few pages of the search engine? There are number of nuances involved – some are easier to implement, while others need help from the experts. Below we show some of the important aspects of SEO you must know:

Now a days everyone relies on Google search. The links which are seen on first page, people opens mostly only those links first. So if your business is even small seo plays very important role in enhancing the visibility of your business.

Yes people rarely goes to second page to find the answer to their queries. It also depends upon the type of query. For example, I am looking for shoes online, I will definitely get a good product on the first page itself, but if I am searching for decor tips for rainy season then there are chances that I can go on second page to find more decor tips.

Of course...! Small business owners should know about SEO because this is a way to compete with the bigger brands for organic results unlike paid advertising.

Even if the business owner doesn't plan to do their own SEO, it's still important for them to at least be familiar with the general concepts and best practices. Otherwise, it's easy for an unscrupulous "SEO expert" to scam them and sell them worthless "services" that won't help their business at all.

I recently read a news story about a bookkeeper who stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from her small-business clients. She was able to get away with it for a long time because the business owners didn't know anything about basic financial controls and just turned over control of their bank accounts and financial records to her. If they had taken even a few hours to educate themselves about the appropriate division of duties to maintain adequate controls, they would have been in a much better position to protect themselves.

Just so, a business owner who wants to hire someone to optimize their site but doesn't take even an afternoon to educate him/herself about the basics of SEO risks losing a lot of money and wasting a lot of time dealing with so-called "experts" whose tactics won't do anything to help their business.

It isn't necessary to be an expert yourself, but if you're going to go into business it will pay to learn at least the basics of all aspects of what it takes to operate, promote and grow your business.
