Default Guide to buying Hard Drives

A bit of info on buying and installing a hard drive.

"One key distinguishing factor between hard drives is the way in which they connect to your computer. There are a number of basic types of connection schemes used with hard drives. Each connection type has a range of differences in performance."

external hard drives can also offer another layer of security because they can be unplugged from your computer when not in use. this is good for protecting sensitive info (a hacker can't get access to it if it's not plugged in). and the same approach is also good for backup data. i'm not a pc user, but my impression is that a bad virus can wipe the data on all your hard drives.

when buying a hard drive, my recommendation is to buy as much storage space as you can afford. chances are you will need it at some point.

also remember that hard drives are mechanical. they can and will break. back up everything important!
