Default Things are NOT always what they seem. Or Are They?

Well, I've been having a hay day with splittesting these past two weeks. I ran a split test on a one-page copy approach and my traditional four-page copy approach. Over the course of 10 days, the one-pager beat the four-pager 3 to 1.

With that knowledge, I dumped the old four-copy and stuck with the one-pager.

Suddenly, conversion rates plummeted.

So I made a two-pager and put it head to head against the one-pager. Conversions stayed dismally low. So I put up the old four-pager again and it's now beating the one-pager about 6 to 5.

Conclusion? I can't! I don't have enough information yet - and I believe I acted dreadfully too fast with the first splittest.

What can others possibly learn from this? Don't ask rashly. Let things take their time. I had a week's worth of data, but that obviously wasn't enough. I've committed to run the three-way split test (1, 2, 4 page approach) for at least a month.

Does anyone know how to do statistics so I could see if my end results are statistically significant? I need to break out an old Stats 221 book I guess..

Hopefully someone learned from my ramblings.
