You can find directories in your industry. Use the following statement in Google:

all in title: golf "add url"

it will bring all site with words golf and add url. change golf for the keywords in your industry.

You can also search on Google for you website's competition (using the keyword in your industry) and check the backlinks for them. You will find their strategy for linking and you will find several sites where you can submit your link.

I used to have to do link exchange for a company I worked for and the thing that I found that worked the best was to find websites that would be a complement to your website and ask them to exchange links with you. That's probably the most direct but can be time consuming way of getting links. Make sure that any site you do that with is going to be a real asset to your clients and your site would be a real asset to their clients.

You can also find bloggers that like to talk about your industry and comment on their posts. This can indirectly influence them to check out who you are, they may mention you in one of their posts. That method is a lot of work for possible little out come. You can also ask them to talk about you, but usually doesn't work.

Something that is also possible is do something in your company and industry that is very note worthy and then tell people about it. This is a way to get people to talk about you which is always a good thing.

Thumbs up

Backlinks to your website will determine the search engine rankings and traffic of your website and it also effects the Google PR of your website and hence it is important to get more and more backlinks.

Some of the techniques to get backlinks are given below :

Directory submissions
Forum postings
Social bookmarking
RSS feed submissions

However, the most important factor will be the content of your website and hence it is suggested that you should concentrate on the content of your website first and then other aspects of SEO

Well from my 1 year of experience i have submitted my site to directories, written articles and submitted to article submission sites such as ezine.com, social bookmarking sites, writing to bloggers asking them to review my website and comment on that. Reciprocal linking was not much effective in my case. Anyway, i guess this is enough to start with. Good luck!!

Work through social media as well such as Twitter and possibly Facebook. If you can develop friends and you all agree to support each other's posts or articles, then this sharing will hopefully get others interested in posting links to what you have to offer.

Well, the above link said it all. But still I want to suggest you some good points like press release, signature line postings in forums, tell about your site on Social networks.

Write and submit many articles not on your business, but something your business deals with as an expert. Maybe something of controversy. The more article companies you submit too with your links in the author's bio, but more your back links will increase. Although this can be time consuming.
