Default Forum Challenge: Name that Baby!

Ok, Robert suggested I take this discussion to the forum, perhaps to save him the stats and facts that have surrounded every single name that we've considered thus far for baby #2.

So...have at it...help me name the baby! I need boy names and girl names...because we have no idea what we're having.

The rules...

I have this thing against popular names. (Not that that should be a shocker since my first child is named Elnora Wren)

So...the name cannot rank within the top 500 most popular names for the year 2005.

Also, my husband likes nicknames, so ideally there's at least one shortened version of the name that can be used.

Here's the perfect site to help out... (tells you the rank of the name and whether it's on an upward or downward trend...)

http://www.babynamewizard.com/namevoyager/lnv0105.html

Generally, I like older names. So no making up a name like "Kajaylabelle" or "Masonist" or whatever.

Current frontrunners...

Girl: Cecelia, Adeline, Cordelia
Boy: Hollis, Emmet, Everrett

Amelia is a name that we considered...as I do think it's beautiful. Unfortunately it's on a sharp upswing right now and was the #84 most popular name in 2005. That takes it out of contention.

Adalia on the other hand...wow, that's beautiful. Tell me more about where you came up with it? It's not in the top 1000 list for any decade in the last 100+ years. It also has lots of nickname potential...

Ada
Dalia
Daley
Addie

On the other hand, I'd forever have Robert holding it over my head that he named my kid...

Of course, I could be paid off in cinnemon rolls.

Adalia is the name of a lady at our church. She is a fantastic person who works with the kids.

Just checked on the name origin and found this:

The girl's name Adalia is of Hebrew and Old German origin, and its meaning is "God is my refuge; noble one."

I've got the same deal with popular names (though we never bothered to look them up for popularity). We found a great name for our most recent son and now it's the second most popular name in the country. That really pissed me off! Guess we should have looked up the popularity.

Gillian
Aaliyah
Rhiannon
Vashti

Elisha
Guardian
Evan
Stoney

Silly Stoney, see this is why you have to check those types of things. That BabyName Wizard is a very handy tool.

For example, I LOVE the name Wyatt, have loved it forever...also had planned for years on naming a daughter Addison. Guess what two names are now among the most popular names for boys and girls? Yep...Wyatt and Addison.

I'll give you this...Stoney is a very unique name and not super popular. On the other hand, it violates one of my two rules of baby-naming...

1.) I personally know someone that's named it and they are under the age of 65.

(the other, if you are curious is the "can't be on an upward naming trend.")

As for cinnamon rolls...I dunno, naming a child just might be worth a batch of those... even if it does cost me $60 to mail them. (Can you believe that? $60 just to mail a dozen cinnamon rolls overnight? That's just insanity!) Now if someone would come visit me in Sunbury, I'd be more than happy to make them.

In fact, I'm going to make a double batch in the next week or two and flash freeze them before baking. Then, when I go into labor, I can pull them out to rise and by the time baby is born, we can all enjoy fresh cinnamon rolls.

(unless baby decides to make a fast appearance in which case someone can drive to Cinnabon )

lol ... off to use baby name wizard tool (by the way, very useful site - my daughters name was 96 when we named her and peaked last year at 46 - that's pretty accurate based on my experiences!).

ok. must not be within top 500. must get cinnamon rolls. fair enough?
