Default List Sources

As they say in direct mail, it's all about the list. You could have a great message on a cool mailer but without the right list of people, you won't hear much.

In the real estate world, agents segment their potential clients in a lot of different ways: geographic area, age, income, interest group, first time buyers, retiring, military families, etc, etc, etc... That means scouring the web and other sources to find lists of people that fit the profile.

My buddy is in the mortgage business and is looking a certain kind of prospect:
Likely candidate for refinancing
Has had trouble getting a loan elsewhere
First time home buyers
Young families

Any ideas on where I could find useful lists for him? Where do you go for your lists?

Good topic! I don't have a magic bullet and also would love to hear how others aproach it.

I am working on creating one of garden nurseries in a 5 county area and at times create others - typically biz vs consumer though. To some extent I think it matters what your list parameters are, but I typically cobble together my lists by using search a lot. That works well for me because I'm very familiar with search and most of my lists are business listings versus consumers.

Hey Mattsweb,

Nice pic there! Looks alot like mine from my certification dive years ago!

While I haven't used them yet myself, I believe www.infousa.com to be one of the bigger list co's and they've been around for quite a few years. I sometimes go there just to play and see how many folks are in a certain type of list with different selects to get an idea of the size of a potential market.

Go Leads is another company I've been aware of for forever, but I really can't vouch for the quality of their lists either.

Thanks for the replies - I'll check them out.

BTW, avatar is from a trip to Belize. I wish I was there now instead of 5 degree Minneapolis!
