Default The Best Free Blogging Platform.

Iím looking for a free hosted blogging platform. My requirements are: convenient and secure blog posting platform (Iím mostly afraid of spammers), and ability to have a few static pages. Iím willing to have a site which will make itís revenue from contextual advertising and several affiliate sale programs. Which platform would you recommend most?
Iíve already found a wordpress that seems the most suitable one. Would you recommend any others? Maybe Vox? (I havenít checked it yet.)

So far I'm pretty impressed with Wordpress although my life got much much easier when I discovered a set of free Content Management System "templates" designed by SemioLogic. Makes the transition from blog to true CMS sooooo much less painful.

Good luck!

I've used wordpress a lot. It's not perfect, but does a good job. Lots of good plug-ins too.

I use Wordpress for my blogs.

I have, in the past, used bblog, but I'm not sure they offer a hosted version.

Blogger pops to mind as well.

wordpress is a great piece of software for blogging. Here are couple of things about it:
- hackers are always figuring out ways to hack it. The last major security threat caused several major wp based blogs to go down couple of months back. WP team is always working on ways to improve it.

- You have to download plugins to enhance the core functionality of wp. That can be a headache sometimes. I just installed wp last week on a personal site and I am slowly installing different plugins for it. I am blogging my experience with each of the different plugins for it. The blog is very technical but i think you can see the different issues I have to deal with.

I suggest you to use squidoo. Well, actually it's quite similar to blogging but instead of blogs it uses lens.

Lens are similar to blogs. You can create a lens on almost anything. What I like best with Squidoo is it's easy to use and your lens are easily index by Google.

I used WordPress for about 2 years, but during those 2 years I received over 10,000 spam comments. That was just too much for me. No matter what types of filters I put on, they still found a way to get through and post comments.

I finally had enough of that and designed my own blogging system. It's of course a lot more simplified than WordPress, but I know exactly the features I want, so I didn't need to overcomplicate things.

Nowadays, WordPress might have better anti-spam features, so you might want to give it a shot. Or you could turn off comments and fix the problem for sure.
