Default Do you use Google Maps ads to promote your business?

If you do, is there any difference?

I'm wondering if it's worth the time to get listed.

Default Google Maps

They are displayed BEFORE web pages in a local search.
See what I mean, do a search for roof cleaning tampa ?
Our website saferoofcleaning.com is number one in search results, but maps is displayed first!

I have listed my site as well and I know that it works. My business is in Oakland, CA. However, if someone searches for Berkeley Event Lighting we show up under the maps listing. My business has been word of mouth but more recently we are receiving a lot of inquiries from people searching for services in the "area".

Ben :good luck:
Good for you Ben.
I understand Google's thinking to return Local businesses in searches first.
However, I feel the implementation could be a bit better.
Google is getting it's Local data from all over.
OLD Tampa Yellow Page Listings, Info USA, etc.
If you look at my local Tampa Roof Cleaning search results, many businesses do not even have a web site!
Not that you have to be a good business IF you have a web site, but having a web site is a sign of some stability.
I feel more comfortable spending my money with a business that has a web site.

I think google maps listings are essential, and an excellent idea for your business if it has a static address you would like potential customers to see and visit. Not as important, I think, for those businesses strictly online.

Yes, the static address businesses need to let people know where they are located.
My Mom is always reminding me I need to "get an office".
So, I tell her this "Mom, the day a roof drives up to my door, asking to be cleaned, I will get one"
Being in the roof cleaning business in Tampa, we go all over Tampa Bay.
There are millions of people surrounding Tampa Bay with dirty roofs.
Actually, we service north up to Ocala, FL, East of Tampa past Orlando, and south past Sarasota/Bradenton almost to Naples
To say Gas Prices are killing the economy is an understatement.
The Google Local Listings are not perfect.
What is a company like ours to do ?
Place a separate Google Local listing for EACH area we service

But overall, Google has been GOOD to us
And besides, after over 15 years cleaning roofs in Florida, word of mouth takes over.
About 1/2 of our current roof cleaning jobs are previous customers, or referrals from Painters, Real Estate Agents, or A/C guys.
I know it is hard to believe, but a light colored Florida Roof, turned black from the Mold, Mildew, and Algae growth, retains heat.
This causes an A/C Unit to work harder.
A Lot of Florida A/C Contractors actually suggest getting dirty roofs cleaned, to save money on cooling costs.
A clean roof is in their best interest because the A/C unit works less hard, and uses less energy!
This makes THEM look good
Same with Painters.
The Mold and Mildew from a dirty roof will wash down, get on and EAT the paint.
Painters refer lots of dirty roofs to us

I really dont use the Yellow Pages anymore.
For What ?
I am a 54 year old Man.
Why look for my glasses, and fumble through pages ?
I simply go to my 21 inch monitor, type in what I want on Google.
A lot easier and faster, for an old guy like me.
I think that is what my new customers do, the ones who don't already know of us.
That is why IMHO you MUST pop up in the search results on Google, and on page one.
Until you get established, and word of mouth takes over, you MUST be found by someone seeking your services.

Default It WORKS!

Just did a Google search for "Roof Cleaning Clarksville, TN" and guess what. At the top was ME listed #1 in Google Maps. WOW 48 hours later and I am sitting on top. 1st link after google maps is me also. A post I placed on a local forum. #3 and #6 are also posts on different sites. All of these posts have links back to my web pages.

Now here is the kicker. I just started getting serious about this on 4/25 and working at it. Now see where it has gotten me. My web site is not there yet but that is only a matter of time.
